“Uppie,” she barked. I looked around frantically.
“Uppie,” she cried louder, a panic started to set in, for
both of us.
“Uppie!” she screamed louder. We’d lost her favorite possession.
My heart broke.

This weekend's Trifecta mini-challenge was to use the same word repeated three times.
The word repeated here is the name my daughter has given her favorite stuffed animal. The problem is once we realized what she had become attached to, it was too late to get her a replica replacement. It's been discontinued. Any stuffed animals like it are too big and at this point, Uppie is too tattered and she'd notice a difference. Losing Uppie would be horrific on so many levels. I hope it never, ever, happens.
I may not have followed the challenge to the letter, because proper nouns, while not expressly forbidden, were not mentioned outright. But to defend myself, my daughter sometimes uses the name as a verb. In this case "Uppie!!!!!!" is a demand in one word, over and over again. I hope that gets me off the hook.

My daughter used "uppie" as a verb meaning to be picked up. I remember those days that something critical like "Uppie" went missing. There were some pretty frantic moments. Fun story!
I think a proper noun is perfectly legal for this challenge :)
I remember when my younger son lost his stuffed cat, Kitty. (I think he dropped in a Goodwill donation box and we didn't catch it.) He now has a stuffed tiger named Purr Kitty that we are very careful to keep track of (he's seven and still sleeps with it!)
Oh, that would be horrific. Even now at 5 I hate to think about my sons being without their favorite thing or me without my favorite shoes. ;)
this was a perfect personification of a fear every parent has.
TGIF> :)
That would a complete nightmare to lose something so dear.
You're totally off the hook. This is fabulous, from the childish element to the adult-ish horror. Thanks for linking up!
My son 'accidentally' threw his favorite Batman onto the roof of the church where we were all attending his grandfather's funeral. We were so lucky that we just happened to have a twin version, so we just told him that Batman was in the car, and he bought it. So I was sweating with you on this one!
This was so adorable and cute. And creative, too!
Oh, I know that panic well! Excellent job depicting it from both sides. :)
Been there... clever prompt work.
Great take on the prompt !
What parent doesn't know this horror? *shudder*
Very relatable piece. Well done!
So far we've managed to avoid this situation, but "Uppie!" is a familiar demand in our house...
Thanks everybody for the great comments.
