Trifecta Challenge: Ecstasy

She’s my salvation, my religion, my temple. I bow before her alter every morning as I pick her up from her crib and kneel before that alter as I put her to sleep. I listen to her sermon of gibberish and undecipherable words and try to heed her commands as if they are gospel. I watch her every move and in that movement and odd rhythm, I achieve an ecstasy of contentment and joy. I watch her dance, hear her laugh, see her smile and I'm at peace.

 ********************
This week's trifecta challenge was Ecstasy:

1
a : a state of being beyond reason and self-control
b archaic : swoon
2
: a state of overwhelming emotion; especially : rapturous delight

 ********************

Things I learned while writing this:
  • I can not spell Ecstasy on my own. I keep thinking an X should be involved. I don't know why.
  • I can write something without having to edit it a million times to get it under that 333 word limit! Huzzah!
  • Typing with a cut on your index finger is hard work!

Parenthood is an ecstasy like no other (a sleep-deprived, but joyous one!)

The things you learned made me chuckle :)

That about sums up almost every parent, I think! I love this extended metaphor.

Thanks for linking up!

Summed up very nicely, as others have said, and I agree. Hope your cut index finger heals rapidly!

Thanks everybody for your sweet feedback. I hope my index finger heals fast too. It's a pain this typing thing.

I totally feel this, being a mom! Not always a smooth ride but when it's great, it's great.

Worshipping at the temple of the goddess who worships you. Great piece!

Aww, this is so lovely! And the perfect description of motherhood!

Hmm... I saw this as an outlet experience as much as a joyful experience. It can be exhausting to be so constantly tied to someone or something, much like religion. Your writing reminded me of the days of having an infant around, and the bittersweet feeling of that person being your entire world. You captured a lot here!

Thanks for the feedback. Kdillman, I think you're reflection of the piece is what I was thinking. It's a lot of work to be so tied to her, but so worth it and fulfilling at the same time.

This was beautiful--I'm not a parent myself (other than to a really, really angry cat whose temperament is best described when we named her Feral Fawcett), but this evokes such a feeling of appreciation for all the good parts about the privilege of this little life over which you have stewardship. Lovely!
